Joe earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western Michigan University with a major in Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds a Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) designation from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He also holds a Chartered Retirement Plan Specialist (CRPS®) designation from the College for Financial Planning.

Prior to joining Siena, Joe spent 15 years as Chief Financial Officer and 9 years as shareholder at a successful logistics firm that specializes in rail transportation logistics. His professional career began with KPMG Peat Marwick where he was a senior auditor focused on small to mid-sized clients in manufacturing, construction, broadcasting and service industries.

Joe is passionate about community involvement, currently serving as Treasurer and Finance Chair of the Ronald McDonald House Mid-Michigan and has served on the Board of Directors for the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce and the YMCA of Lansing.  He is a member of the Grand Ledge Pony Baseball Board, co-founder of the Grand Ledge Area Flag Football Program and a Girl’s AAU Basketball Club.

Stephen holds a Doctor of Law degree (JD) from DePaul University College of Law, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, a Master of Science in Financial Services (MS) – advanced financial planning – from The American College, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Michigan State University, a Certificate in Accounting with a Specialization for Controllers from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a registered Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He also holds a Michigan Real Estate Broker License.

Stephen has been accepted into membership of the prestigious Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline academic honor society. Stephen also graduated from business school Beta Gamma Sigma, the premier academic honor society recognizing business excellence among business school graduates. Among other past professional experience, he worked near Chicago, Illinois as one of five advisors managing nearly $1 billion in investment funds for individuals, businesses, and not-for-profits. In addition to his advisory role with clients, he also conducted employee investment education seminars for the State of Illinois retirement plan system.
